The best way to understand Reiki is to experience it...
In June 2009, I became a certified Reiki Master. I began my interest in Reiki in January 2007. Completed Reiki Level I & II in 2007 and Advanced Reiki in 2008, schooled through Soul Connection in Guelph.
Reiki works with Universal Life Force energy. If your life energy is low, or if there is a restriction in its flow (e.g. your chakras), you are potentially vulnerable to being tired or to bring on illness. When your life energy is high and flowing freely, you are less likely to feel lethargic or sick. Life energy plays an important role in everything we do.
Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words, Rei (pronounced 'Ray", meaning Spirritual Wisdom) and Ki (Life Energy). Reiki is a hands-on technique, and the client is fully clothed. It was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922, during a retreat at Mount Kurama in Kyoto, Japan, during a spiritual awakening meditation. He realized after this experience, his awareness had expanded, and intuitively realized he was gifted with a healing technique through his hands, that would not deplete him as he helped others.
Feel free to read more details related to Dr. Mikao Usui on the Canadian Reiki website.
I also facilitate a Reiki Intro Workshop to help demystify what Reiki is. Please check my events calendar for the next one.
A Reiki Session...
I have a client's questionnaire for my first time clients to fill out. You may suggest what your healing focus is, as well, intuition may guide me, in no particular hand-sequence order, to where I 'feel' Reiki is needed most. I
I'm often asked, 'what can Reiki heal?'. Reiki's healing potential is unlimited. Your efforts are important, as well as short-term or long-term changes may be required. How often between sessions may also be a factor. Keep in mind, there's no limit to what Reiki's energy can dissolve, the challenges may be unchanged external influences. Here is a list of potential benefits.
I create a relaxing atmosphere with dimmed lights, candles, incense, and soft music. I have lots of blankets and pillows to ensure every client's session is as comfortable as possible. I may or may no ask you to loosen tight belts or anything that may restrict you from breathing with ease. Shoes are usually removed. I also prepare myself, through breathing techniques to ensure I'm grounded and able to provide the highest level of healing to serve our Higher Selves for that moment.
Reiki hand positions work around areas of: head, shoulders, chest/stomach area, legs, and feet area. for approximately 2-5 minutes per area. I won't move to the next hand position until I feel Reiki energy has stopped flowing into that one area. There are times that I may hover a few inches above various areas, as some people's energy is very sensitive, or it may depend if there is any actual reason not to touch the skin. Reiki energy has it's own intelligence. It will personally design itself to suit each person's specific needs. For an example, I may have my hands on your shoulders, yet you will feel a temperature change in your feet. Or vice versa. Reiki hand positions are just 'windows' for energy to enter, not necessarily a stopping station. Energy will flow freely through your entire body. If and when it comes to a blockage, Reiki energy will do it's best to unblock it, resulting in potential healing of certain or many previously experienced symptoms.
I will explain it at times as, Reiki will 'heal' in layers. The most recent layers are usually worked on first then the next, and the next. This is why it may take numerous sessions to notice a significant improvement in your area of concern.
I also like to emphasis, that any small improvement is a miracle. Miracles don't always come in big packages.
